BOYDS, Md. (Feb. 27, 2015) Today the Washington Spirit announced a number of coaching changes. German Peri stepped down as head coach of the Spirit Reserves and was replaced by KJ Spisak who will also continue in her role as an assistant coach for the pro team. Hayley Siegel was added as an assistant coach for the pro team.
Peri stepped down as head coach of the Spirit Reserves in the off season to take on more responsibility with the Arlington Soccer Association.
“We thank German for the great work he did last season and I hope we can get him back again in the future. We wish him the best with his role as Technical Director of Arlington Soccer Association,” said Spirit general manager and head coach Mark Parsons.
Current pro team assistant coach Spisak will take over as head coach of the Spirit Reserves team.
“This is an exciting opportunity for KJ and a very important step for our organization,” Parsons added. “KJ taking over the reserves is a natural progression from her time with the professional team last season. KJ working with both reserves and pro team in 2015 will give the young players a true opportunity to progress and give our club expertise and experience in leading our next generation.”
The final coaching change is the addition of Hayley Siegel as an assistant coach for the pro team. Siegel will be working closely with coach Parsons on the technical and tactical structure of Spirit training sessions as well as doing video analysis.
“Hayley is a top class professional who will bring plenty of ability and knowledge to our staff,” said Parsons. “Hayley will is a modern coach who is driven by playing attractive soccer and I know the players will love having her on board.”
“I’m excited about being involved with the Spirit staff and players who have the ambition to coach and play at the highest level possible,” said Siegel. “I’m honored to be able to be a part of the NWSL and feel passionate about the future of our game. I am fortunate to coach within the youth development side of the game and I see firsthand how powerful and inspiring the league and professional female players are for the next generation of young girls who love the game.”
Siegel has playing and coaching experience from her youth club, collegiate, U.S. Youth National Team and international careers. Siegel played at Santa Clara and graduated in 2009. She went on to Germany and played in the Frauen-Bundesliga for VFL Sindfelfingen. She returned to the DC area and began her coaching career at Georgetown University, first volunteering and then as a full-time assistant 2011-2013 learning the coaching game from the head coach and her mentor, Dave Nolan. In addition, she began coaching youth teams for Bethesda Soccer Club and found her passion within the youth development side of the game. This last year she took on a full time position with Bethesda Soccer club and stepped into a leadership role with the youth program as well as coaching the U16 ECNL team.
The Washington Spirit will begin its 2015 season on the road facing the Houston Dash at BBVA Compass Stadium on Friday April 10th. The Spirit will make its home debut at Maureen Hendricks field the following weekend on Saturday April 18th at 7 PM against FC Kansas City.
