Finishing the regular season at 10-9-5, the Spirit have 35 points. Just a year ago, the Spirit finished in last place, with only three wins and 14 total points. This turnaround has produced an exciting and unpredictable season, which now will continue this weekend in a semi-final battle with number one ranked Seattle Reign FC.
The Spirit will need to leave it all on the field in an effort to contend with and defeat a dominating Seattle Reign FC with Hope Solo, Sydney Leroux, Megan Rapinoe and many other solid players leading the team. Having tied the Reign 1-1 in their recent match with several missed opportunities, the Spirit are capable of pulling off the upset if they come in prepared. There’s no question that Diana Matheson, Tori Huster, Ali Krieger, Ashlyn Harris, Jodie Taylor and the rest of the squad will be ready to bring all that they have on Sunday.
