The Washington Spirit today acquired forward Lisa De Vanna from Boston Breakers via trade. In exchange, the Spirit have sent Mexican defender Bianca Sierra and their third and fourth round picks in the 2015 NWSL College Draft to the Breakers. De Vanna is expected to join the Spirit in Washington D.C. later this week.

Sierra played in nine games for the Spirit this year, starting five and clocking 520 minutes at outside back. She was picked up by the team during preseason where she proved herself worthy of a spot on the roster despite tough competition. Sierra has had several stints with the full Mexican Women’s National Team as well as the U-20 team.

“We are all sad to see Bianca leave,” Spirit general manager and coach Mark Parsons said. “She has given everything to the team on and off the field and will be missed. I believe she has a great opportunity to continue her development and make a big impact for Boston this season and many more to come.”

De Vanna, 29, has seen time in six matches this season for the Breakers, starting in five of those games and recording one assist. She will be looked upon to add to the Spirit’s front line and contribute to the team immediately.

“Lisa is one of the most exciting attacking threats in the league and we are very pleased to welcome her to D.C.,” Parsons added. “She has the ability to change games and will bring even more hunger and fight to our squad. I can’t wait to see her make her Spirit debut.”

The Spirit next take the field this Saturday, June 21 at 6:30 p.m. when they host the Portland Thorns at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, MD.
