The Washington Spirit take on FC Kansas City on Sunday, May 11 at 7pm ET at Durwood Stadium in Kansas City, MO. This will be the second time these two teams meet this season, the first ending in a 3-1 Spirit victory at home.

The Spirit, coming off a full week of training, look to bounce back from a tough loss to the Seattle Reign last Saturday. Despite finding a rhythm early on, and going up 1-0 in the 53rd minute, they were unable to keep the league leaders off the board and ultimately fell 2-1.

Kansas City is also hungry to get back on the pitch after suffering a 2-1 loss in their mid-week game against the Western New York Flash. This will be the third game in nine days for Kansas City, who are coming home after a three-game stretch on the road.

The last time these two teams met, the Spirit came out on top 3-1 thanks to two Diana Matheson goals and a well-struck free kick from Christine Nairn. Goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris also came up big for the Spirit on several occasions, including a penalty kick save in the 6th minute to keep Kansas City off the board. Amy Rodriguez tallied Kansas City’s lone goal.

Both teams have taken hits this season. Kansas City stumbled out of the gates a bit before finding their stride, while the Spirit have struggled to string together two wins in a row. With both teams sitting next to one another in the middle of the standings, the points from this game could prove to be important down the stretch.

“We are looking forward to hitting the road for an exciting game against KC,” said head coach Mark Parsons. “We performed very well last weekend but just came up short. We will be looking to build on that performance and do what it takes to come home with some points. Go Spirit.”

Saturday’s match will be played at Durwood Stadium in Kansas City, Mo. and streamed online at www.youtube.com/NWSL.
