The Washington Spirit announced today the final open tryout date for the 2014 USL W-League Spirit Reserves team. Tryouts will be held on Saturday May 3rd from 1:00PM to 3:00PM at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, MD. Field assignment is forthcoming and will be announced closer to the actual tryout date.

Players must register in order to participate in trials.

With the addition of a professional team in 2013, the W-League squad serves as the primary training ground for players to prove themselves capable of deserving a shot at the pros. The W-League team carries the name “Washington Spirit Reserves” and trains frequently alongside the professional team. Additionally, the Washington Spirit Super-20 team serves as the region’s top college-bound and active college players who still have several years left before graduation from the college game.

Tryouts are open and current collegiate players are encouraged to attend. After the May 3rd trials, players may only tryout through direct prearranged invitation from a member of the coaching staff and must still register in order to be considered.

Interested players must complete the online tryout registration form along with one-time $50 registration fee in order to be eligible to participate. Previously registered players are not to pay registration fee a second time.

Players are encouraged to arrive 30 minutes prior for check-in, warm-up, and stretching. Maryland Soccerplex fields may be turf or grass depending on assignment, so players should insure they bring proper footwear to the trials.

Following the tryouts, the NWSL Washington Spirit professional side takes on the Seattle Reign on the stadium field at 6:30PM.
