The best seats at Maureen Hendricks Field are right on Maureen Hendricks Field.

The pitch is pristine; the feeling intimate. Throughout the rest of the season, the Spirit are also making it possible to sit right next to the game itself, with a limited number of Fantasy Seats on the sideline, opposite of the team benches and just around the corner from Spirit Hill.

“The condition of the field is really beautiful – what a great place to play a game,” said Spirit fan Michael Howson, who recently took in a Spirit game from close range. “You don’t really appreciate how nice it is until you are right down on it.”

The championship stadium at Maryland SoccerPlex, where the field was named earlier this year for the woman who helped spearhead the development of the facility and was a former owner of the Washington Freedom, has quickly become arguably the best venue in the National Women’s Soccer League.

There’s not a bad seat in the house, including behind the east goal on Spirit Hill, where the beer garden and sloped grass incline makes for a perfect spot to take in a summer sunset and watch the NWSL in its inaugural season. But the Spirit have something even better in mind.

“We are very proud of the atmosphere we’ve been able to create at SoccerPlex,” Spirit general manager Chris Hummer said. “We want to get the fans as close as they can – within reason – to our fantastic players and product.”

There’s something about having the best players in women’s soccer at arm’s length. There’s nothing like being up close and personal to see and feel the weight of a pass, the speed and precision of the game, and the physical skills of elite athletes who are known around the world for their performances in the Olympics and Women’s World Cup.

“Seeing Diana Matheson, Becky Sauerbraun, Nicole Barnhart and rest so close was very cool,” Howson said. “We noticed things we hadn’t before and enjoyed that part of it.”

In some cases there’s even a chance to get involved, though it’s recommended to save the autograph requests for afterward.

“An errant pass rolled off the pitch right to me,” said Spirit fan Jenny Willis. “I happily tapped it back to a player for the throw in, which was certainly a highlight of the night for me.”

Seats in this prime location are $75 if only buying one, but drop right down to $50 each if buying two or more. That’s just $10 per seat above the VIP Reserved seating in the main stands, but with the added perk of a complimentary drink and snack while field-side!

As this is a new offering, fans already holding tickets to future games have the options to upgrade to VIP Field Side Experience” seats through the end of July. To upgrade fans need to call a Washington Spirit ticket representative at 301-337-8579. To purchase directly while they last fans only need to visit tickets.washingtonspirit.com.
