The United Soccer League announced its 2013 Annual League Award nominations today, honoring those teams and executives that set a standard of excellence over the previous twelve months. Spirit Reserves staff member Remy DuCote was named a finalist for the Betsy McAdams Key Grip Award for his exemplary work behind the scenes with the Washington W-League squad.
The Washington Spirit Reserves is also included in the list of nominees for the Communication Award, highlighting the organization’s efforts in public relations and sports media throughout the year.
Serving as the Spirit Reserves Player Resource Director, DuCote is instrumental in the coordination and administration of all player issues prior to and throughout the W-League season. DuCote’s role goes much deeper however, as he also supervises game day operations and is the chief liaison with both the USL and the US Soccer Federation.
DuCote held a similar role, Director of Player Development, with both the Northern Virginia Majestics and D.C. United Women over the past 10 years prior to joining the Washington Spirit staff last December.
Named after the late USL Hall of Famer Betsy McAdams, the annual Key Grip award honors the top behind-the-scenes staff member responsible for multiple areas within a USL organization. By definition, the award recognizes an excellent member of a club’s staff that is not a formal executive with the team.
McAdams, who passed away in 2009, served as the inspirational leader of the Charleston Battery from the team’s inception in 1993. She filled many roles during her years with the Battery, including director of operations and director of finance and business administration.
“I have never worked with an individual, in either the soccer or business world, that steps up day after day to take charge and grab the reigns like Remy,” beamed Reserves General Manager Tim Schweitzer. “He is the point man and enthusiastic go-to guy for everything with the Spirit Reserves, and accomplishes every task with a wry smile and great attitude.”
“I’ve learned so much from working side-by-side with Remy for over a decade and can’t imagine doing any of this without him,” concluded Schweitzer.
