Trials

Washington Spirit has a team or training program at every level of the game, from 8-years old to professionals, and from time to time we hold public trials for players interested in becoming members of our youth academy, reserve teams, and even the pros.

Professional Team: Playing in U.S. Soccer’s “National Women’s Soccer League” as one of eight teams. The 2013 season will consist of 22 games and run from mid-April to the end of August. Spring training will begin in early to mid March. Players are all full professionals. Other teams in the league: Seattle, Portland, Chicago, Kansas City, Boston, Western New York, and New Jersey.

USL W-League Team: Playing in the USL W-League will be our “Washington Spirit Reserves” team, but will also be a major force in the nation’s top Pro-Am League. Playing DC United Women in 2011 and 2012, the team will be coached by former Chelsea Ladies Reserves coach Mark Parsons in 2013. The team is open to all non-professional players, and will primarily be made up of active college players. The team will occasionally train with the full professional team. The season runs from May 11 – July 31

USL Super-20s: The second team in our player development pyramid below the professional level. Any player who does not turn 20 prior to January 1, 2013 is eligible. The team plays in the USL Super-20 league, and will frequently train with the W-League team. The season runs from June 1 – July 31.

Super-Y League / Academy: The Summer of 2013 will see a full set of teams from under-12 through under-17 playing under the Washington Spirit Academy name, each under the ultimate direction of Spirit’s professional head coach Mike Jorden. Players in these teams will be identified with the intent of becoming regulars in year-round supplemental training programs while they continue to participate with their travel club teams. Ultimately this player development is intended to identify and produce players capable of contributing to the professional team in the future. Members of these summer Super-Y teams and those involved in our year-round training programs will have frequent opportunities to interact with and learn from our professional staff and players. Academy players will always receive free tickets to our pro games and be consistently invited to special pro player events. Tryouts for our 2013 season will be held in early 2013 at a site and place TBD.
