Boyds,MD – Saturday, April 29 2017: The Houston Dash beat the Washington Spirit 1-0 in a NWSL match at Maryland SoccerPlex.

It has been a busy past couple of days for the Washington Spirit’s newest signing, forward Crystal Thomas out of Georgetown University. Thomas not only made her NWSL debut on Saturday against the Houston Dash, but also completed her graduate school coursework at Georgetown on Monday as she earns her master’s degree in marketing and communications.

WASHINGTON – Former Georgetown University women’s soccer player Crystal Thomas (Elgin, Ill./Wheaton Academy/Notre Dame) made her professional debut on Saturday night for the Washington Spirit of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).

The team typically takes Monday off, but Thomas, who is finishing her master’s degree in marketing and communications at Georgetown, had to make her final class presentation that evening, so there really was no rest for the new professional.

Thomas had trained with the Spirit during the preseason and made the first set of cuts before being signed to her first professional contract on Friday. One day later, she was on the field for the team’s game against the Houston Dash.

‘It was awesome,’ Thomas said. ‘It was a fantastic feeling being out there with my teammates. It was a great atmosphere with our coaches and our fans. I was just really excited to make my debut.'”
