BOYDS, MD. (April 3, 2015) – The Washington Spirit will face the University of North Carolina at 7 PM on Saturday April 4th at Maureen Hendricks Field. Last week, the Spirit lost 1-0 in a tight match to the University of Virginia.

The Tar Heels, coached by Anson Dorrance, finished the 2014 season with a 14-4-2 after being knocked out the the NCAA tournament by the University of South Carolina in the Third Round. The Gamecocks’ first half goal from Raina Johnson was enough to propel them to a 1-0 victory at Fetzer Field and on to the quarterfinal of the tournament. The Tar Heels will return 10 starters and 26 letter winners overall from the 2014 team

“This is our final chance in preseason to compete and do well,” said head coach Mark Parsons. “Preseason has been a great success and it is important to us to finish strong. UNC plays at an exceptional pace and will test us all over the field. We have specific areas we want to see improvement in our performance and we will work hard to meet those goals.”

Tickets for the game can  be purchased online for $10 each in advance. Tickets will be available for purchase on site the day of game, but will cost $15 each. Fans can also purchase their tickets through the Washington Spirit online ticket portal here. All of the profits from the charity match will go to benefit Headers for Hope whose mission is to support local cancer charities.

The Washington Spirit will begin its 2015 season on the road facing the Houston Dash at BBVA Compass Stadium on Friday, April 10. The Spirit will make its home debut against FC Kansas City at Maureen Hendricks Field the following weekend on Saturday, April 18 at 7 p.m.
