Boyds, MD (June 1, 2018) – The Washington Spirit returns home to host the Chicago Red Stars on Saturday at the Maryland SoccerPlex. National television coverage for the NWSL Game of the Week on Lifetime will begin at 3:30 p.m. ET, and kickoff is set for 3:50. [TICKETS]

Saturday will be the second of three meetings between the sides this season. The Spirit and Red Stars drew 1-1 on Saturday, April 28 at the Maryland SoccerPlex in a rainy contest that featured a fourth minute goal from Francisca Ordega for Washington. Chicago’s goal was scored by Alyssa Mautz in the 20th minute.

The Spirit will play in its second NWSL Game of the Week on Lifetime of the season, earning a 2-0 win against the Orlando Pride on March 31 at the Maryland SoccerPlex.

“I think it’s always great to showcase our club and our home stadium here at the SoccerPlex,” Spirit Head Coach and General Manager Jim Gabarra said. “And how great of an environment it is. It’s fan friendly, it’s very close, it’s very intimate. You really feel support of the Spirit Squadron and all of our fans. We’re looking forward to getting out there on national television and having a great day.”

The Spirit returns home where it won its last home contest against Sky Blue FC 1-0 on Wednesday, May 23. Ashley Hatch scored her second goal of the season in that contest and followed that up four days later with a goal last Sunday at Houston in the team’s most recent outing. Hatch and Estefania Banini netted the two goals in Washington’s 3-2 defeat at the Dash.

The Chicago Red Stars have struggled as of late, going winless in its past seven contests. The team is 0-2-3 since drawing with the Spirit on April 28. Both losses were to the Orlando Pride, including the Red Stars most recent contest last Saturday in a 5-2 defeat in Chicago.

Chicago will be without three top players due to national team selection. Julie Ertz, Sofia Huerta and Alyssa Naeher will be unavailable for selection as they prepare in camp with the U.S. Women’s National Team for friendlies against China PR.

Washington meanwhile will be without Ordega (Nigeria) as she competes with her national team.
