Washington Spirit falls 1-0 in defensive battle vs. Utah Royals FC

Sandy, Utah (August 8, 2018) – In a defensive battle at Rio Tinto Stadium, the Washington Spirit came up short 1-0 against Utah Royals FC on Wednesday night.

Spirit goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe racked up seven saves, but a second half goal by Utah’s Katie Stengel proved to be the difference in the game.

Following a scoreless first half, the lone goal came in the 74th minute, with Taylor Lytle assisting Stengel on the play. Bledsoe increased her league-leading save total to 92 on the season.

Washington will visit the Houston Dash in their next game on Friday, August 17. with kickoff at 8:30 p.m. ET. The team returns to the Maryland SoccerPlex on Wednesday, August 22 to host Utah Royals FC at 7:30 p.m. ET. [TICKETS]
