Boyds, MD (August 12, 2017) – Both teams scored a goal in each half as the Washington Spirit and Boston Breakers played to a 2-2 draw in Saturday’s Lifetime Game of the Week at the Maryland SoccerPlex, with 3,722 fans on hand.

Washington took an early lead in just the sixth minute on a strike from defender Estelle Johnson, her second career NWSL goal. After having her first attempt saved by Boston goalkeeper Abby Smith, Johnson recovered the deflection and buried the close range shot to put the Spirit in front. [WATCH]

Boston equalized shortly before halftime in the 44th minute on an unassisted goal sent into the bottom left corner of the net by Adrianna Leon, which would prove to be the front end of a brace for the 24-year-old Canadian international.

Second-year forward Cheyna Williams scored her third goal of the season to help the Spirit reclaim the lead in the 64th minute on a header from point blank range, cleaning up a deflected save by Smith on a long range shot from Estefanía Banini. [WATCH]

In the 79th minute, Leon netted her second of the game to equalize for Boston once again, breaking into the center of the box and connecting on a left-footed shot, assisted by Ifeoma Onumonu.

Both teams had multiple late opportunities for potential game winners, as the Spirit’s U.S. international forward Mallory Pugh had a shot go off the crossbar in the 83rd minute and Boston’s Rosie White pushed a breakaway shot wide in stoppage time. Kristie MewisTori HusterShelina Zadorsky and Johnson each recorded shots in the final 10 minutes of regulation and stoppage time for the Spirit as well in an offensive barrage, which forced Smith to make a total of nine saves in the game.

The Spirit outshot the Breakers 21-11 overall, with 11 shots on target to the Breakers’ three shots on frame. Washington held 58.6 percent of total possession for the game and made 388 passes as a team in contrast to Boston’s 274.
