ROAD TO WORLD CUP 2015 – CONCACAF WOMEN’S WCQ

Congratulations to Ali Krieger and Ashlyn Harris with the USWNT and Veronica Perez with the Mex WNT for qualifying to the 2015 Women’s World Cup!!

USWNT (WWCQ)
The USWNT played Haiti on Monday October 20th at RFK Stadium in DC. Ashlyn Harris played for the entire game, and Ali Krieger was an available sub. The USWNT won 6-0 to advance to the semifinals. In the semis on October 24th, the USWNT beat Mexico 3-0 to officially qualify for the 2015 Women’s World Cup! Ali Krieger played the entire match, and Ashlyn Harris was available on the bench. In the finals on October 26th, the USWNT, including starter Ali Krieger, beat Costa Rica 6-0 to win the 2014 CONCACAF Women’s Championship. Ashlyn Harris was an available sub.

Mex WNT (WWCQ)
The Mex WNT beat Jamaica on October 21st in DC to qualify for the semifinals of the CONCACAF Women’s World Cup Qualifying tournament. Veronica Perez started for Mexico, which came from behind to win 3-1 in an important victory. The Mex WNT moved on to play the USWNT in the semis on October 24th, losing 0-3. Veronica Perez was an available sub. In the third place game on October 26th, Mexico won in extra time over Trinidad and Tobago to qualify for the 2015 Women’s World Cup. The final score was 4-2. Veronica Perez was a starter for the game and played until she was subbed out in the second period of extra time.

Can WNT
The Can WNT played a friendly against Japan on October 25th, losing 0-3 to the defending Women’s World Cup Champions. Diana Matheson played the first 78 minutes before going off the field in some pain. The Can WNT gets another shot at Japan on Tuesday October 28th in Vancouver. Match Recap

NEW SPIRIT FACES

The Washington Spirit had a busy week when it comes to bringing in new players! The Spirit signed Liverpool Ladies FC’s Amanda Da Costa, officially signed former Boston Breakers player Joanna Lohman, and acquired both Angela Salem and Katherine Reynolds from WNY Flash. Da Costa, Lohman, and Salem are midfielders, and Reynolds is a defender. Welcome to the Spirit family! In the WNY Flash trade, the Flash acquired Jordan Angeli from the Spirit. Good luck in New York Jordan! We wish you the best!

W-LEAGUE

Huster Scores for Jets
Tori Huster opened up scoring for the Newcastle Jets in the 36th minute against Brisbane Roar. Huster later pressured the Roar into scoring an own goal. The Jets went on to win 4-1. New Spirit members Katherine Reynolds and Angela Salem also played the full match for Newcastle. Game Recap

Record Attendance for Canberra v Melbourne
Canberra United featuring Chantel Jones and Lori Lindsey edged Melbourne Victory with Christine Nairn and Lisa De Vanna in a hard fought 1-0 match. All four Spirit players played the full game. The match was attended by a Westfield W-League record of 14,068 fans. The win moves Canberra ahead of Melbourne in the standings. Game Recap
