Coming off a 1-0 victory over the Western New York Flash, the Washington Spirit travel to Houston to face the Dash. The Spirit are sitting in third place with an 8-7-2 record, while the Dash are in seventh place, at 5-10-1. With the top four teams qualifying for the playoffs, the Spirit are in a position to solidify their standing.

In their last match, the Washington Spirit were propelled to a win by a penalty kick goal by Diana Matheson. It was Matheson’s 7th goal of the season, good for second on the team and sixth in the NWSL. Her goal was enough for the Spirit, as goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris registered her fourth clean sheet of the season.

The Spirit and the Dash have met twice already this season. On May 26th, the Spirit defeated the Dash 3-2 behind goals from Matheson, Jodie Taylor and Christine Nairn. Then on June 28th, the Spirit won again, 1-0, with a game-winning goal from Jodie Taylor. Despite the two victories in the Spirit’s favor, both matches were challenging battles and the Spirit expect the same on Thursday.

The Washington Spirit will travel to Houston to face the Dash on Thursday July 17th. The teams will meet at 9pm ET at the BBVA Compass Stadium.
