PHOTOS: Spirit trains ahead of Portland trip; Academy teams attend NWSL practice

Boyds, MD (July 20, 2017) – The Washington Spirit got in a competitive week of training ahead of this Saturday’s road test against Portland Thorns FC. It will be the first of two visits to Providence Park this season for the Spirit, who won the first match-up with a 1-0 clean sheet effort at the Maryland SoccerPlex on June 24. Washington Spirit Girls’ Development Academy players attended the pro team’s training session on Wednesday morning, and afterward got a chance to spend some time getting to know their NWSL role models. Following a joint lunch session on the stadium concourse with the pro and Academy teams, the youth players hit the training fields at the Maryland SoccerPlex for their summer gap program. This weekend’s trip to Portland will be the second of four consecutive road games for Washington. The Spirit will play next at home on August 12 against the Boston Breakers. [TICKETS]
