Westfield W-League:

The Westfield W-League 2016-2017 season in Australia got underway last weekend. The season runs from November to February, giving NWSL players the perfect opportunity to play in the offseason. The Spirit has three players currently playing in Australia: Kelsey Wys and Megan Oyster for the Newcastle Jets and Katie Stengel for the Western Sydney Wanderers.

Both Oyster and Wys played the full 90 minutes in a hard fought 1-0 loss to Melbourne City FC, with Wys making her first appearance for the Jets and Oyster starting her second season with the team. The defending W-League Champions Melbourne City scored in the 8th minute, and despite some close attempts, Newcastle was not able to find an equalizer. Next up, the Jets will face Melbourne Victory at midnight ET on Sunday, November 13.

Stengel made her Wanderers debut this weekend, playing the full match for her side. The Wanderers lost 4-2 to Perth Glory. The team initially went down 2-0 in the first 20 minutes before clawing its way back to tie the match up at 2-2 shortly after halftime. Perth took back control of the match in the 68th minute and sealed the deal in the 83rd, both goals coming from Sam Kerr who plays for Sky Blue FC in the NWSL. The Wanderers will be looking to rebound on Saturday, November 12 at 10:30 p.m. ET against Sydney FC, last season’s W-League runner-ups.

USWNT:

Crystal Dunn and the U.S. Women’s National Team play their final matches of 2016 against Romania in California today and Sunday. Dunn started both USWNT friendly matches against Switzerland in October, scoring a goal in the second match. The 24 year old has scored 13 goals this year for the USWNT and has made an appearance in every match the FIFA No. 1 ranked team has played.

Upcoming Matches:

  • Sydney FC vs Western Sydney Wanderers (Katie Stengel): Sat Nov 12, 10:30 p.m. ET
