Offseason Update: Dunn Shines for USWNT; Jets Earn First Win of Season Featured Image

USWNT:

Crystal Dunn and the U.S. Women’s National Team finished out 2016 earning two wins against Romania. Dunn started both matches, scoring a goal in the second match. The 24-year-old has scored 14 goals this year for the USWNT and is one of only two players to make an appearance in every match the FIFA No. 1 ranked team has played.

The first match against Romania on Thursday, November 10 saw the U.S. jumping out to an early lead in the 8th minute on a Christen Press goal with as assist from Dunn. The team kept piling on the goals, earning an 8-1 victory. Dunn added another assist on Alex Morgan’s 52nd minute goal. (MATCH REPORT)

On Sunday, November 13, the two teams had a rematch. Romania scored an own goal in the 20th minute which was forced in part by a beautiful cross from Dunn into the box. Dunn then added a goal of her own in the waning seconds of the first half to make the score line 2-0. The team scored another three goals in the second half to finish out 2016 with a 5-0 win over the Romanians. (MATCH REPORT)

Westfield W-League:

The Newcastle Jets earned its first win of the season over the weekend with a convincing 4-0 win over Melbourne Victory. Megan Oyster opened the scoring for the Jets in the 8th minute with a strong free kick from the edge of the box. After two more goals in the first 25 minutes and a late goal in the 90th, the Jets cruised to the win. Kelsey Wys had a strong performance, making a few key saves to preserve a clean sheet for her side. (MATCH REPORT)

The Western Sydney Wanderers took on their cross town rivals Sydney FC in a Sydney derby. The record crowd of 4,178 fans saw Sydney FC score two goals within the first 30 minutes of the match. Just before the half, the Wanderers had three strong chances, including one from Katie Stengel, that were saved by the goalkeeper. Despite chances on both sides, the matched ended 2-0 for a Sydney FC win. Stengel played the full match for the Wanderers. (MATCH REPORT)
