Carson, CA – Thursday August 03, 2017: Mallory Pugh during a 2017 Tournament of Nations match between the women’s national teams of the United States (USA) and Japan (JPN) at the StubHub Center.

Boyds, MD (August 4, 2017) – Washington Spirit forward Mallory Pugh scored her fifth career international goal as the U.S. Women’s National Team earned a 3-0 win over Japan on Thursday night at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Pugh netted the second of the USA’s three goals, receiving a through ball from Taylor Smith on a run up the right wing, before cutting toward the middle of the box and beating the goalkeeper with a left-footed strike in the 60th minute. The 19-year-old played 72 minutes in a starting role before coming off for Lynn Williams.

The USA placed second behind Australia in the Tournament of Nations, earning two wins over the course of three games. Pugh played in all three games at the event, including two starts. She played 166 total minutes, with 57 minutes coming in a start against Australia on July 27, and 37 minutes as a substitute on July 30 as the USA stormed back from a 3-1 deficit late in the second half to beat Brazil 4-3.
